Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
OSA is a very dangerous condition. OSA is a condition in which your breathing momentarily stops at night. During these apneic moments your brain wakes up to resume breathing again. These waking moments prevent you from reaching deeper stages of sleep, which are essential to good health. OSA can lead to some very serious health problems such as high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, impotence, gastro esophageal reflux disorder (GERD), morning headaches, dry mouth, irritability, impaired concentration, daytime sleepiness and depression. If you think you may have sleep apnea, you should be properly diagnosed by a sleep physician through a sleep medicine center. See your regular physician for a referral for an overnight Sleep Study (Polysomnogram).
